Drive Types

Chain Drive

The chain drive is a very durable option and the most economical. Originally designed for heavy loads and frequent use, this drive type is built to last over the years. The chain drive is perfect for very heavy or oversized garage doors. If noise is important to you, however, you may opt for the whisper belt drive options instead.

    • ½ AC HP

    • DC motor: smooth start/stop, industrial strength¾

    • AC HP: I-beam rail system, strongest of the chain drives

Belt Drive

Our favorite, and our most popular! The belt drive openers are known for being ultra quiet while still offering the durability and strength of the chain drive. These openers are especially a popular choice for those that have a bedroom near or above the garage. If you would like to further reduce noise, consider changing your rollers to our steel, ball-bearing, nylon coated rollers for extra noise reduction and smooth operation.

  • Motor Type:

DC Motor: quiet, long lasting, extra durable

    Features:

    Battery back-up

    Modern, sleek design

Control opener while away with free myQ app

Automatic lock will deadbolt door after closing

    LED lighting

HomeLink®: Program compatible cars directly to opener

Amazon Key: (secure in-garage delivery of groceries and packages)

Jackshaft (sidemount)

The jackshaft opener is perfect for uncommon situations such as low headroom, very high headroom or if you would just like to free up ceiling space. The jackshaft is excellent at reducing noise and vibration and will mount on the side of the door.

    • ½ AC HP

    • DC motor, battery backup, built in camera, Amazon Key: ultra quiet, smooth start/stop, industrial strength

Questions or Ready to Schedule?

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you are considering repairing versus replacing your opener, we’ve got answers to help you make the decision that is right for you.

    When to replace:

    • The cost over repair outweighs the cost of replacement

    • The opener is near the end of its lifecycle and will likely have more costly repairs soon

    • Replacement parts are not manufactured any longer

    • You are looking to upgrade because of noise reduction or advanced safety and technological features

    • You had a new garage door installed that is much heavier and you need a stronger opener

  • In most cases, a ½ horsepower is more than enough strength. Reason being, the springs are what do the lifting of your door. If you have a heavier door, you have stronger springs. The opener is there to gently assist in its raising and lowering. If you have a heavy, solid-wood or oversized door, you may opt for a DC motor or ¾ hp. The DC and ¾ hp openers will also normally come with some additional really nice features as well such as built in camera and battery back up.

  • If you are considering a battery back-up opener, there are definitely some benefits. If you loose power at your home, not only will you still be able to open the door with the automatic opener, but you also eliminate the problem of all the codes to remotes/keypads/cars getting wiped out due to the re-start of the opener.

  • The belt drive openers will be much quieter than the chain drives, and specially the DC motor belt drive will be the quietest.

  • We can install an opener that you have purchased on your own if you prefer. We do, however, highly highly recommend the Liftmaster Professional openers, which are generally sold only by authorized garage door dealers in their complete form including the solid-piece steel rail. If an opener is purchased elsewhere, it is most common that it is a builder’s grade opener with a pieced together rail, or has not come with a rail at all. We also will only be able to warrant the labor (vs parts and labor) and for about 30 days in comparison to a full comprehensive 1 year warranty on both parts and labor. We generally see that the pricing comes pretty close when all is said and done.

  • Most of the time, yes! As long as you have a compatible make and model, we can program your car to directly open your automatic door opener with the HomeLink® feature. Say goodbye to keeping track of remote controls!
